We owe to the French painter Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) the invention of the term "Art Brut", as well as the donation to the City of Lausanne of the works forming the original collection.
Furthermore, the Neuve Invention collection, initially named by Jean Dubuffet "annex collections", and later renamed "Neuve Invention" by him in 1982, brings together works that display an artistic and social break less radical than those of the creators of Art Brut, although they still remain on the margins of traditional art circuits. The creators belonging to this collection are indicated on the biographical captions with the label Collection Neuve Invention.
